Marshall County

For outdoor lovers, Marshall County is your perfect playground. It is home to the famous duck decoy carver Charles Perdew as well as one of the State of Illinois' largest preservation areas, the Marshall County State Fish and Wildlife Area. This gorgeous 6,000 acre stretch of land is located just off of Route 26 and covers backwaters, bottom lands, bluffs, and byways. It is also in the flyway of numerous ducks and bald eagles, many of which make the Illinois River Valley their winter home, offering visitors the chance to view these majestic creatures up close.

As for heritage, the Marshall County Historical Society Museum in Lacon offers visitors a glimpse of the past. Also in Lacon is Julie's Corner Store, a specialty gift store that specializes in fudge and novelty items. Fudge is an official "Illinois Product" recognized by the Ill. Dept. of Agriculture. Additionally, Julie's Corner Store has just opened their Chocolate Cork Wine Tasting Room, where you can sample local wines and some of Julie's own homemade fudge.

For a unique and inviting place to stay in Marshall County, you'll love the Mission Oak Inn. It's a country bed and breakfast offering a quiet, comfortable getaway from the stress of life.  The award winning Mission Oak Inn is located on 120 acres nestled next to the private 7-acre lake that sports excellent fishing and abundant wildlife. Enjoy a full gourmet breakfast while looking out over the lake, field and woods.
