Tazewell County
From riverboat gambling to golfing and shopping, Tazewell County offers visitors several places to play while in the Peoria Area. Whether it's family entertainment such as a semi-professional theatre performance at Eastlight Theatre or unique outdoor events like Pumpkin Chuckin' you're looking for, take some time to relax in the communities that make this area truly entertaining.
The Tazewell County Seat is the city of Pekin, where visitors will want to spend the afternoon in Mineral Springs Park, which offers paddleboat rides, a water park, miniature golf and more. In East Peoria, there is the nationally renowned sports complex, Eastside Centre right next to Splashdown Waterpark. If you're looking for a more quiet retreat, try the boutique shopping at Washington's historic downtown square and spend your evening listening to live music and sampling local flavors in Mackinaw at Mackinaw Valley Vineyard.
Tazewell is home to some of the Peoria Area's most amazing internationally renowned festivals. The East Peoria Festival of Lights is a very popular event held every December featuring a glowing drive-through electric park of lighted parade floats. There are over 2 million lights to see at this one-of-a-kind festival that is a frequent winner of the American Bus Association's top 100 events. Additionally, Morton, IL, also known as the pumpkin capital of the world, holds it's annual Pumpkin Festival each fall. Over 80% of the world's processed pumpkin comes from Morton, and they proudly display this heritage each year at the Pumpkin Festival with live entertainment, a craft show, a parade, various competitions, and a pumpkin delight tent where you can eat just about anything made from pumpkins.
