Anime-ZAP! convention to Play in Peoria this weekend
PEORIA, IL - Fans of the Japanese art of anime will meet in creative costumes for the Anime-ZAP! convention this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 7-8, at the Four Points by Sheraton. Anime-Zap! is a fun-filled weekend event celebrating Japanese arts and pop culture, cosplay, entertainment, video games and more.
The convention begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and features over 30 events, including a martial arts class, a manga library with over 1,500 comics and print cartoons, anime screenings, collectible card gaming, a comedy standup workshop, cosplay photo shoots, video game tournaments and several discussion panels. There will also be a large vendor hall and artist alley where attendees can purchase anime merchandise and original artwork.
"Hundreds of people will be getting together to celebrate a fandom we all love," said convention organizer Ryan Kopf.
Event highlights are the costume masquerade contest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a formal ball at 9 p.m. and rave dance lasting until 2 a.m. Sunday. The convention closes with a ceremony at 4 p.m. Sunday.
At-the-door registration is $25 per person. The cost covers admittance to the convention for the weekend, with unlimited access to all events and contests.

Anime-ZAP! 2012 convention will create an economic impact of about $13,500 and fill 60 hotel rooms in the Peoria Area. There will be about 500 individuals in attendance.
The PACVB represents an eight county region including Bureau, Fulton, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford. The organization's mission is to promote the Peoria Area as a destination for visitors and contribute to the economic growth of the communities they represent.
