40th Annual Conference
PEORIA, IL - The Illinois Probation and Court Services Association will be hosting its 40th Annual Fall Training Conference and Awards Banquet, "Probation: It Works," October 28-30, 2009 at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria.
The event kicks off Wednesday with speaker Thomas J. Penn, Jr., Peoria County Public Defender. There will be workshops held from 1:30-4:30 p.m., including "School Safety Contracting with Juvenile Sex Offenders: A Collaborative Approach," "Lost Innocence: Girls, Violence and Aggression" and "Leadership Skills: Managing Organizational Change."
Thursday's guest speaker is Kevin W. Lyons, Peoria County State's Attorney. Sessions on Thursday include "An Overview of Family Shelter Services- Working With Those Affected by Domestic Violence," "Self-Help Group" and "Detention Staffing Pattern Dynamics: A New Approach to Old Problems."
Thursday evening's Awards Banquet has a black and white 1920s theme, so guests are asked to dress the part as much as possible, with flapper dresses, feathers and pearls for the ladies, and a white shirt with a garter on the arm for the men.
The PACVB represents an eight county region including Bureau, Fulton, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford. The organization's mission is to promote the Peoria Area as a destination for visitors and contribute to the economic growth of the communities they represent.
