Susan G. Komen Peoria Memorial Race for the Cure
PEORIA - The Illinois Valley Striders, in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, are proud to host the 2009 Peoria Race for the Cure. The race will take place on Saturday, May 9, at the Metro Centre (University and Glen) in Peoria.
The event will feature timed men's and women's competitive 5K races, as well as a 5K Family Run/Walk. Runners and walkers can register as a team or as individuals and there are more than15,600 participants registered for the Race for the Cure so far. The top donation receiving team right now is the "Komen Blazers," who have raised $4,640, followed by "Team Bradley," which has been pledged $3,100. Eric Brinker has gathered the most individual donations, as he has received $3,275 in pledges.
The Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. In 2009 races will be held in more than 100 U.S cities and three foreign countries with over 1.3 million participants expected.
Proceeds from the Komen Race for the Cure® Series help fund important breast cancer research as well as breast health initiatives on a local level. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds remain in your community, helping to support breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved.
The mission of Peoria Area Sports is to provide coordination and support to existing sporting events as a part of the Peoria Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau, whose mission is to promote the Peoria Area as a destination for visitors and contribute to the economic growth of the communities they represent.
