Everyone has an imagination. Art helps develop it. Art takes what was just a thought and makes it a reality. Creating art is a way for children to learn how to make choices and solve problems by taking them through a step by step process. The end result is an object they created. Local artist Courtney Carmain will be teaching classes to help children (ages 8-17) find an expressive outlet through art and to help them develop hidden talents. Masterpiece Mondays are two 6-week sessions with each class building on each other until at the end of the program children have a compilation of art pieces. Session 1: September 11 (Acrylic Painting on Canvas) - September 18 (Rolled Magazine Boxes) - September 25 (Scratchboard) - October 2 (Plaster Masks) - October 16 (Pastel Drawings) - October 23 (Tye Dye T-shirts - bring your own 100% cotton t-shirt)

The 10-story Fine Arts Building in Chicago's Loop was built for the Studebaker Company in 1884-5 as a carriage sales and service operation. In 1898 it was converted in one of the nation's oldest artist communities, and now houses artists' lofts, art galleries, theatre, dance and recording studios, interior design firms, musical instrument makers, and other businesses associated with the arts. Past tenants have included the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright and Lorado Taft. Architect David Swan will reveal this interesting history.

Session 2: November 6 (Acrylic Resin) - November 13 (Basic Glass) - November 20 (Intermediate Glass) - November 27 (Glass Mosaic) - December 4 (Snow Globes) - December 11 (Water Color Greeting Cards)
