The Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (PACVB) is encouraging its residents to support local restaurants and order carryout or delivery on March 24, 2020, in "The Great American Takeout".
This movement was created by a coalition of restaurants including Panera Bread, Noodles & Company and Jason's Deli. During "The Great American Takeout", people are encouraged to order at least one delivery or pick-up meal to show support for the struggling restaurant community.
COVID-19 is currently poising a major threat to the restaurant business as the "shelter in place" mandate continues through April 7. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, there is little evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted through food or packaging.
To participate in "The Great American Takeout", Americans are being asked to:
Post on social media in advance of the event, encouraging friends, family and followers to take part in #thegreatamericantakeout.
Engage friends, family and colleagues to support their local restaurants by ordering takeout meals.
Order delivery or pick-up for at least one meal on March 24, sharing photos on social media tagged with #thegreatamericantakeout.
"We are living in unprecedented times. Now more than ever, we must come together as a community to support our local businesses in any way we can," said J.D. Dalfonso, PACVB President/CEO. "The Peoria region has so many unique delicious restaurants to support for "The Great American Takeout".
Please practice best health procedures while participating in "The Great American Takeout". The health and safety of our region's residents is the top priority. This event is pending changes in governmental mandate.
