With a pandemic ruling all aspects of daily life, 2020 turned out to be a significant year in history that undoubtedly will be remembered forever. As for many other museums and institutions in our communities, this was a first for us too: the first time that the museum didn’t open the doors in its 38 years of history. Despite the setback, our campus made major changes including the addition of a new exhibit building and everything that comes with it.
We will reopen again in May 2021. As we adjust to the new normal and as a way of recognizing the impact of COVID -19, we are curating a very special exhibition: A collection of photographs to show the pandemic as much as possible as a global issue and captured through the individual lenses of each participant. We want to amplify the voices of different people and communities; we like to show the impact and the personal experiences during the last few months. The submitted photographs should capture a descriptive life moment, a memorable experience during the pandemic.
The general public is encouraged to participate by sending images in either digital or print format (8” by 10”), horizontal or vertical orientation, high resolution is encouraged, no watermarks on photos. For digital submissions use First Name_Last Name_Photo# for filenames. For mailed-in or dropped-off photos include the photographer's name and last name and a photo id number. You can also mail a CD or any other digital media with your images. Add contact information: email and/or phone number. We might not display all photographs received.
Three winning works will be selected by a committee. The prizes will be awarded to the photographs that best captivate the theme of this exhibition based on the photograph’s impact, the story it tells, the creativity put into it. All photos are expected to be sharp, with high contrast, colorful and well exposed.
Prizes are as follows:
1st prize: $100 and a family membership to the museum
2nd prize: $50 and a family membership to the museum
3rd prize: $25 and a family membership to the museum
You can submit your photographs from March 1, 2021, until April 15, 2021. Winners will be announced the first week of May 2021. This special collection will be displayed during the 2021 season in the museum’s new exhibition building.
