A non-for-profit corporation founded to promote German culture in the Peoria area through song, sport, food, drink and good fellowship, dinner will be every Friday from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. and the Society sponsors Oktoberfest on the Riverfront in September; as well as a Sommerfest, Volksfest, Bratfest and Schlachtfest at Hickory Grove Park in the summer months.

Holding true to a solid long-standing tradition of community entertainment for all ages, the 2009 Peoria Area Community Events Brown Bag-It Series presents another season of fine musical performances.  Held during the lunch hours in the heart of downtown Peoria, Brown Bag-It continues to offer a taste of quality local musicians with diversified talents and style.  From jazz combos to banjos, youth municipal bands to swing bands, PACE provides delightful melodies FREE for all ages.  The season kicks off in June and runs through August 30th.  Entertainers perform from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza.

Old Fashioned Havana 4th of July Celebration

The Havana Fourth of July Celebration, hosted by the Havana Chamber of Commerce, is comprised of several events including a parade and a fireworks display which are always held on the Fourth of July. Following the parade is the Little Miss Sparkler and Little Mister Firecracker Pageant. The Havana Fire Department water fight will also take place after the parade. The fireworks will begin at dusk at the Havana High School football field, located at the corner of McKinley Avenue and Highway 97. This event is free to the public. Seating for the fireworks is available in the bleachers or on the practice field.

On Saturday, July 4, the cities of Peoria and East Peoria will come together with JMP Radio Group, Methodist Medical Center, Peoria Park District, Fondulac Park District, and the Peoria Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau to launch more than $60,000 worth of fireworks into the skies over the RiverFront. At Approximately 9:30pm the pyrotechnics display will light the skies above both sides of the Illinois River with a unique blend of spectacular 4th of July fireworks synchronized to a special musical soundtrack that will be broadcast exclusively on JMP radio group stations. Arrive early for a good viewing spot and to try food & beverages from numerous vendors. New This year, the Prairie Air Show will present an exciting display of airplane acrobatics before the fireworks. Performed over the Illinois River, the show will run for one hour preceding the fireworks.
