This traveling exhibition honors the 375th anniversary of the founding of the New Sweden Colony, the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley. Even though the colony lasted only seventeen years, it had a lasting impact on Swedish emigration. New Sweden’s early success in North America encouraged future Swedish immigration to the United States, which includes the establishment of the Bishop Hill Colony.
