Redneck Fishing Tournament

August 1, 2014 - 12:00PM
217 W. 1st Street
Bath, IL
Add to Itinerary

It's not exactly fishing, but it's also not full-contact martial arts either... the 2014 Redneck Fishing Tournament is the only type of fishing we know of where the fishing is most like hand-to-hand combat. Fish jump from all directions and at all speeds so there is no "safe" spot on a boat. What started as a few friends trying to take their river back from an invasive species of Asian Carp, has grown into an annual summer event of thousands. Rednecks from all over the world travel to the Village of Bath, IL for one weekend each summer to celebrate... an net thousands of Asian Carp. Whether it's a final summer weekend of fun before going back to school, or a quick vacation getaway, this redneck event is becoming a must on summer bucket lists. Held along the banks of the Bath Chute of the Illinois River, hundreds of boats compete each day for prizes, bragging rights, and for the sheer fun of the event. Thousands more come to sit along the banks of the river and soak it all in. Come in costume, or just bring your lawn chairs and a camera, but be prepared for a weekend of Redneck fun!

The 2014 Redneck Fishing Tournament will be held August 1-2nd, 2014. There will be two, 2-hour heats each day. Advance registration is strongly encouraged.

The Village of Bath offers camping sites in the Village for those wishing to spend the night. There are also limited hotel rooms in the neighboring town of Havana, IL. Food and drink is also available at the tournament from local vendors. Attendees will also find DJ's, live music, carp games, porta-potties, and family activities. It is usually very hot and very humid, so bug spray and a shade umbrella are usually good items to consider bringing.

"Is There Life After Fifty?" is a new comedy by Cynthia Hayes DiSavino that flirts with a topical theme: the aging of the Baby Boomer generation. Three couples who all raised their kids on the same street have found a way to keep in touch after they move to new cities. Each year, on Labor Day weekend, the friends vacation together. This year, the ladies have planned a little surprise: a healthy, all-natural weekend at a trendy health resort, complete with organic food and exercise. The men, who really come for the beer and snacks, are not pleased when they find out. Tensions esculate into an all-out battle of the sexes and the cabin is divided, literally, into the men against the women. They battle over health food, exercise, and pizza, The Godfather, rock and roll, hot tubs, hot flashes, tummy tucks and their refusa to become middle-aged!
