One of The Largest Food Banks In Central Illinois, Peoria Area Food Bank Seeks To End hunger in Three Counties By Organizing Food, Information and Support For Community Survival and Dignity.

The Peoria Area Food Bank was formed in 1984 to help supplement the dietary and nutritional needs of low-income families. Counties served by the Peoria Area Food Bank are Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Fulton, and Mason counties.

The Food Bank provides 112 active food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior housing, and low-income day-care centers with large quantities of food from name-brand manufacturers and USDA commodities on a daily basis.

In 2009 the food bank distributed over 3,00,000 pounds of food; an increase of approximately 1,087,157 pounds compared to 2008. The Food Bank relies heavily on corporate manufacturers for food donations. It also receives support from individuals and local businesses, and actively participates in the annual Peoria Area Anti-Hunger Coalition Can-a-thon and the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.
